Mohs Micrographic Surgery

Mohs is your key to becoming cancer-free.

What is Mohs Surgery?

Developed by Frederich E. Mohs, MD, Mohs Surgery is a technique that we use here at Yoon Dermatology every single day. It is a tissue-saving surgery approach in which we take a layer of tissue (or stage), during which Dr. Yoon performs as both the surgeon and the pathologist right here in our office. The tissue then undergoes a freezing and staining process, which can take anywhere from 45 minutes – 1 hour while the patient waits. This process allows for the removal of all cancerous cells as Dr. Yoon reads the slides and essentially “chases” the cancer until you leave our clinic cancer-free, while effectively sparing as much healthy tissue as possible.

Why We Do It

In addition to Mohs being heavily focused on preserving your beautiful skin (and as much of it as possible), Mohs Surgery is the fastest, most reliable skin cancer treatment technique used in dermatology today. The patients that come in to our clinic with a basal cell and/or squamous cell carcinoma leave the same day with cancer-free skin while receiving a significantly less painful and more successful skin cancer removal experience than traditional surgeries. Mohs is the only dermatological procedure in which our patients receive results in one day, with less pain, and the most minimal damage possible.
